12-Gauge Comics has announced the Kickstarter for BODY BAGS: Omnibus, “the definitive collection of Jason Pearson’s bombastic and massively influential treasury of comics following mercenary Mack Delgado, AKA Clownface, and his teenage daughter, Panda, as they hunt deranged villains throughout Terminus, Georgia—a thinly veiled analogue of Jason’s adopted hometown, Atlanta.”

The publisher shared:

Published from 1996 to 2008, BODY BAGS spans the foundational four-issue miniseries, two one shots, and multiple short stories. Pearson passed away from natural causes in 2022, leaving behind a mourning family of creators he helped shape with his transcendental work as well as fans who never stopped anticipating more of his signature storytelling and unmatched craftsmanship.

BODY BAGS: Omnibus collects:

  • The original Body Bags 4-issue miniseries, “Father’s Day” (1996)
  • The short story “World Destroyer” (1998)
  • The short story “Well, It’s About Time!” (2000)
  • The short story “Hit Da’ Switches” (2006)
  • The standalone issue “’One Shot” (2008)
  • The short story “Where There’s Smoke There’s BEEP” (2015)
  • The short story “Star Trek vs. Star Wars” (2015)
  • The short story “Pissed Off” (2015)
  • The short story “Inner Child, Inner Hell” (2015)

The collection will be delivered as a hardcover with a slipcase initially designed by Pearson and completed by acclaimed designer Sasha E Head. The page count is currently 275+ pages; an additional 25 pages will be added if the project achieves its stretch goals.

“At six, Jason received his first Spider-Man comic book and announced that he could draw it better. Later, he would wear a dish towel as a cape, put on black gloves, and leap onto the furniture, declaring that he was Superman,” Jason’s mother explained in a statement. “By age 19, he was working for Innovation in Wheeling, West Virginia. Just a year later, he was drawing for DC Comics, illustrating Justice League Quarterly #1 and would soon join Gaijin Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on his way to living out his dream as a comic book artist. I miss him all the time, and he is always in my heart.”

The BODY BAGS: Omnibus Kickstarter will also include the option to back a “Fauxsimile” edition of BODY BAGS: Father’s Day #1, printed with card stock covers and newsprint interiors. The comic will feature variant covers from Jason’s friends and peers, including:

• Chris Brunner & Rico Renzi (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, The Ride, Spider-Gwen, Loose Ends)
• Tomm Coker (Undying Love, Daredevil Noir, The Black Monday Murders)
• Michael Golden (The Micronauts, Batman, The ‘Nam, co-creator of Rogue)
• Andrew Robinson (The Fifth Beatle, Harley Quinn, Superman Rebirth, Dusty Star)
• Matteo Scalera (Secret Avengers, Indestructible Hulk, Batman, Deadpool)
• Brian Stelfreeze (Black Panther, Batman: Shadow of the Bat, The Ride, Matador)

“Jason was one of the most talented creators in comics. Some might say I’m biased, but there’s no one who cared more about his craft, and he proved his skill level repeatedly. Jason could pencil like nobody’s business, sling his own ink, and color anything he wanted—all at the highest level. Most importantly, he could create characters and write stories that not only resonated with readers but also stayed with them forever,” said 12-Gauge Comics Founder & CEO Keven Gardner. “For that, we should all be very thankful. Although Jason was taken from us far too soon, he left those of us lucky enough to call him a friend with cherished memories—and a body of work that will be enjoyed for generations to come. That is what we call a legacy.”
