img_9537Illustrator and cartoonist Natalie Andrewson has produced work for major publications including the New Yorker, the New York TimesPolygon, and Medium. Now, Andrewson is set to publish a brand new graphic novel through First Second.

Entitled The Nutcracker and The Mouse King, Andrewson’s comic will retell the classic holiday story of The Nutcracker as a “dark fantasy.” First Second describes the book as follows:

The Nutcracker and The Mouse King is an enchanting story that begins when young Marie Stahlbaum discovers the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve. Reality blurs as her home is transformed into a dream realm that she explores to reveal the legend of the Nutcracker. This dark fantasy breaks fairytale rules, and is inspired by both the ballet and the original E.T.A. Hoffman story.

The Nutcracker and The Mouse King will be Andrewson’s “first full length graphic novel.” You can find more of her work at natalie-andrewson.com.
