If you’ve been reading my weekly Top Comics to Buy column of late, you may have noticed a quick mention of a Kickstarter for a collection of short comics I wrote, featuring a host of fantastic artists, including PJ Holden, Nick Cagnetti, Anna Readman, Ryan Lee, and more.

Well friends, that campaign has now reached its final hours, heading toward its conclusion at midnight on Thursday. To get some HYPE! going, today I’m exclusively revealing the first lettered pages from the story that PJ Holden drew.

PJ is a fantastic artist, probably best known for the work he’s done for Rebellion Publishing and 2000 AD, with some recent forays into work for DC Comics. I particularly enjoy PJ drawing war comics and apes…which is exactly what you’re about to see on the pages today.

The story that PJ Holden drew is called Apes V. Sharks: The Omega Brain IV, and it’s got colors by Dearbhla Kelly and letters by Simon Bowland. Odd as it sounds, it’s also one of the most personal stories in the book, speaking to the relationship that I have had with ridiculous comics throughout most of my life (the one that motivates me to keep working hard here at The Beat, too).

You can check out the three exclusive, never-before-revealed pages from the story below…enjoy!

PJ HoldenAnd one more thing — a quick word about the book. It’s called Death of Comics Bookcase, Vol. 1, and it’s a collection of madcap short comics written by me (Zack Quaintance) and illustrated by some of the most exciting artists in the industry, including Anna Readman (Dancing Queen), Nick Cagnetti (Pink Lemonade), Luke Horsman (Enemy Earth), Pat Skott (Next Door), PJ Holden (Judge Dredd), and Ryan Lee (Mountainhead). It features colorists Brad Simpson, Jason Wordie, Ellie Wright, Dearbhla Kelly, and Doug Garbark, as well as letterers Becca Carey, Francois Vigneault, Rob Jones, Simon Bowland, and Shawn Lee. The book’s design and logo were created by John J. Hill, and the campaign features covers by John McCrea, Raul Allen, and Nick Cagnetti.

Please check it out and back it now if you are so inclined!
