In advance of the release of the new comic, Lonely Receiver — a haunting and neon-tinged book that deals in artificial intelligence and romance, among other things — the series’ writer, Zac Thompson, has put together a companion playlist on Spotify.

Dubbed I’m the Maker of My Own Evil, the playlist features songs as haunting as the comics subject matter, opening up with the forlorn crescendoing Radiohead track, Daydreaming, before next moving on to The Pet Shop Boys’ song, The Pop Kids, which is a forlorn new wave-esque dance track. That’s just the start; the whole playlist is great, and it’s going to be in rotation in my office for a while as I work. Moreover, though, I just always enjoy seeing what music creators fit to their comics, with other recent efforts that stick out in my mind being original songs that were made for books like Black Stars Above and Upgrade Soul.

One more time, the Spotify link is here, and you can find more info below about the comic, Lonely Receiver, which is due out September 2.

The breakup drives Catrin to the point of near insanity. She’s alone for the first time in years and reeling from a loss she can’t comprehend.

Set in the new future, drenched in pastels and sunshine, LONELY RECEIVER is a horror/breakup story in five parts. Written by Zac Thompson (UNDONE BY BLOOD, THE REPLACER, HER INFERNAL DESCENT, No One’s Rose, X-Men) and illustrated in color by Jen Hickman (MOTH & WHISPER, Test).
