BANG! #1
Bang! #1

Dark Horse Comics announced yesterday, in the form of a classified intel document, Bang!, a new series illustrated by Wilfredo Torres and Nayoung Kim, and lettered by Nate Piekos. The writer of the series was, at the time, unannounced, but it was known that they were a writer/artist with 20 years of experience and at least one New York Times bestseller to their name. Now, through a series of back-channel meetings with confidential informants and the tireless work of some of the greatest hackers of our time, The Beat has learned exclusively that Matt Kindt, the cartoonist behind books like Mind MGMT and Dept. H, is writing Bang! with Torres, Kim, and Piekos.

His identity revealed, Kindt had this to say to The Beat regarding Bang!:

“Bang! is the culmination of my life’s work in a way. It’s been in the works for over fifteen years. There is a common thread in every book I’ve done, from Revolver, through MIND MGMT, 3 Story, Grass Kings, and Dept. H. There is a viral idea…a character, that I haven’t been able to shake. I’ve never been able to kill him. And I have killed him. But he won’t die. And now all of the seeds from those previous books have blown up. The misinformation “psychotic super spy,” the is the key, barefoot drug-addicted “action hero,” the aging “mystery writer,” who to taking and the over the “tech guru with a sentient car?”  This isn’t their “shared” universe. It’s Phil Verve’s universe and everyone else is living in it. world. Bang!!

Kindt excels at weaving intricate webs of story that connect in unexpected ways, as he’s done in books like 2013’s Red Handed: The Fine Art of Strange Crimes. Kindt is also no stranger to tales of espionage, as one of his first graphic novels, the Eisner-nominated Super Spy, followed a loosely-connected network of spies and assassins during World War II.

Release date information on Bang! has yet to be revealed, but we’ll be sure to report on that as our spies uncover it. For now, check out some preview art from the series, as well as the original redacted announcement, below.

Agent Thomas Cord’s most recent communication was made from the open sea, after acquiring the asset. Our intel confirms that Cord was captured soon after his transmission was made. There is video footage of his capture, subsequent torture and eventual escape from his captors, but Agent Cord has not been seen since and he remains missing-in-action. We have, however, attained the paperback of The 18th Stigmata of Philip K. Verve that Cord was sent to recover.

For 20 years, person of interest and New York Times bestselling cartoonist  REDACTED  has been writing and illustrating creator-owned comic books and graphic novels like  REDACTED ,  REDACTED ,and  REDACTED . Our intel now confirms that  REDACTED , acclaimed artist Wilfredo Torres, colorist Nayoung Kim and letterer Nate Piekos are actively working together, for the first time, on an all new project known at this time only as BANG! Transmissions will begin in spring of next year, on a monthly basis.

Little is currently known about BANG! This we suspect: science-fiction novelist Philip K Verve is the key to the entire thing. Goldmaze will not stop until he is terminated.

All further communications must be made in the gap, so that our sources are not further compromised. Inquiries for additional intel can be sent to:
