As in past years, the ReedPOP staff was kind enough to make the entire C2E2 programing list available in a handy text format. You can use their own site to set up a schedule, but this is easy to search. And many great panels, from John Cusack to cosplay how tos to Women of Marvel to the future of Hellboy.

C2E2 takes place this weekend, Mar. 18-20 at the South Building At McCormick Place. We’ll have a bunch of our Elite BEat Reports on location, so make sure to tag them for your hot news and scoops.

FRIDAY

Valiant Portfolio Reviews (Open Call)

Artists will be evaluated on a first come, first serve basis by a member of the Valiant team over the course of one hour. Artists that are unable to present their portfolios on Friday due to time constraints or volume will be encouraged to submit their work for review at the Valiant booth (#317) for review on a subsequent day.

Creating Comics as Part of a Literacy Curriculum

Elementary and secondary school educators discuss creating comics in the classroom and implementation of graphic novels in a Common Core world in order to scaffold literacy skills. This lesson planning and demonstration will illustrate specific strategies on utilizing the creative nature of drawing as a means for communication and a stepping stone to next level thinking by working through adapting a complex text to a visual medium by following a prose to script to comic process.

Designing for the Geek Community Reinventing Library Services to Meet the Needs of Geeks in Chicago

This panel will focus on how the Chicago Public Library is using Design Thinking to better understand the needs of the geek population in Chicago. The library has 80 locations in the city of Chicago and is now training staff to design services driven by the needs of their distinct communities. Geek culture dominates the pop culture landscape and encompasses audiences of all ages. Over the past year the library has been actively researching the millennial and adult geek populations of Chicago and as a result has hosted numerous successful first time events that have brought people of all ages and background together to learn through play. Half of the participants are new users for the library. Using this method of investigation has allowed our teams to identify insights that apply to adult events even beyond geek culture. The panel will discuss our findings, how it’s applicable to developing events for target audiences, how design thinking allows for customization of services without the cost of hiring a consultant and how to partner with unconventional community groups.

Barrel of Monkeys Superhero Writing Workshop

Barrel of Monkeys (BOM) is an ensemble of actor/educators who create an alternative learning environment in which children share their personal voices and celebrate the power of their imaginations. Hogwash: An Improvised Tall Tale

Hogwash is an improvised children’s show full of music, art, laughs, and Audience participation. It was created for kids ages 3 12, but we can’t tell who has more fun, the kids or adults. Kids pick costumes for the actors and choose a location for their story. Musicians provide an improvised score and the actors sing songs created on the spot! Kids participate as characters in the story, and assisting the players whenever possible. All of this comes together to create a one of a kind story.

Heroic Journey The Peace Corps Interactive Experience

It’s time to recognize asexuality as a valid orientation and demand greater visibility for this group, which too often goes unnoticed and unheard.

A gate to another world appears in the middle of Tokyo’s Ginza District, and the citizens of Tokyo are attacked by cavalry, dragons, and demons.
