This morning Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer and poster for the Eternals movie hitting our big screens (we hope) on November 5.

In the trailer we see early mankind being visited by a mysterious ship and a group of beings – our protagonists, the Eternals – who have since “watched, and guided, and helped them progress, and seen them accomplish wonders” but have “never interfered until now”. Hmm.

Eternals is written and directed by the newly Oscar-awarded Chloé Zhao – the first woman to score both a Best Picture and Best Director, for her 2020 feature Nomadland. The movie stars [breathes deeply] Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan…and more!

The Eternals are one of those rare Marvel comics that was fully credited to Jack Kirby. The first issue was released in July 1976 before it was eventually cancelled in 1978. The characters have shown up here and there in various Marvel series down the years, with a miniseries in 2006 from Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr., and another in 2008 from Charles Knauf and Daniel Acuna. An ongoing series for the group launched a few months ago from writer Kieron Gillen and artist Esad Ribic.

Eternals

Although schedules might shift around and change because of that whole pandemic thing, 2021 looks to be pretty busy for Marvel Studios movies, starting with the delayed release of Black Widow’s solo outing coming up (now scheduled for July). Last month Marvel Studios dropped the official trailer for Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is planned for September. Eternals is the third – but not the last! – MCU flick of the year as following its November release comes Spider-Man: No Way Home (scheduled for December). Phew!

With three Marvel Studios 2021 trailers out of the way, the only one left is Spider-Man: No Way Home. Any time now!

Here is a close look at that rather flash Eternals poster:
