An earlier version of this article erroneously described a statement from So Many of Us in 2020 as a new one. We regret the error.
In the August 16, 2026 edition of his newsletter Orbital Operations, writer Warren Ellis responded to the controversy over Image’s decision to publish his new graphic novella Ghost Drive Station. The brief statement, which marks his first addressing his history of sexual misconduct since 2021, reads as follows:
“A few people have asked me about past events in my life. It’s not my place to pick at it in public or speak for others. I will say that I got to apologise directly to a group of people and offer amends, which I remain very grateful for, and I keep that door open. I learned a lot and still am. I fucked up in a number of ways over the years, it doesn’t matter that I never acted with malice in mind, I hurt people, I’m sorry, and I’m trying to do better every day. That’s all I have to say for now.”
Image announced Ghost Drive Station‘s release last week, five years after previously saying they would not publish any books by Ellis until he “made amends to the satisfaction of those involved.” So Many of Us, the group established by Ellis’s victims to raise awareness of his behavior, last stated in a 2023 update that a mediated accountability process with him had broken down irrevocably.
The publisher has not acknowledged its previous statement, and declined any requests for comment, although editor Katie West, who was one of Ellis’s first victims to speak out, has expressed hope readers will not boycott books from other creators.
In the meantime, you can continue to read the testimonies about Ellis’s misconduct on So Many of Us’s website, and consult its list of resources for survivors.

There wasn’t a new response from So Many of Us. The statement that Popverse quotes (“Even as we compiled our stories…”) is from 2020.
Thank you for spotting the error, it’s been corrected now.
That’s two significant reporting errors at SMOU’s expense in as many articles. Misinfo about SMOU-TJ coming directly from Ellis is to be expected. But so is fair and accurate representation of his survivors from the few journos bothering to cover this. Please take more care before publishing the next one!
