Fan-favorite scribe and pulp fiction mastermind David Avallone (Elvira, Bettie Page) returns with three brand-new stories in this special oversized winter issue of Savage Tales. The comic features cardstock covers and artwork by three rising stars, including two recent graduates of the renowned Kubert School for comics illustration.

Avallone says that this is yet another great opportunity to return to a trio of characters he loves writing:

I’ve been a fan of John and Dejah since discovering them in my early teens. Vampirella was the first comics character I ever wrote, and I’ll always have a special affection for her. Finally, Dynamite gave me a chance to imagine a new future for Gullivar Jones in previous issues of Savage Tales, and I continue that story here.

As Savage Tales makes its return, readers are reintroduced to one of pulp fiction’s most iconic power couples. David Avallone pens “Mutiny on Mars,” starring John Carter and Dejah Thoris. Eman Cassallos (Pathfinder, Army of Darkness) brings the adventure to life with his honed artistic skills.

Captain Gullivar Jones, an underrated pulp favorite, returns in the highly anticipated tale “His War,” illustrated by Kubert graduate Hamish Munro-Cook.

Vampirella takes the spotlight in “The Real Thing,” a story chronicled by David Avallone and Mariano Benitez-Chapo, another talented Kubert graduate rising in the comics world.

That’s not all as these three stories end with a reprint of “Seeing Red,” a Red Sonja tale by Kurt Busiek and Benjamin Dewey, originally featured in Red Sonja: Black, White, Red.

With a stunning set of covers, created by Arthur Suydam, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and cosplayer Rachel Hollon. This exciting package promises action, romance, and adventure it makes this set of tales the perfect winter read!

  1. Crossbar Is all over the place. Typical amatuer design work. Maybe if D paid a decent rate they could hire higher quality talent.
