This evening, Wednesday, September 14 at 7 PM ET, artist and character designer Audrey Hopkins along with Varsity Tutors will teach a free virtual class for children grades 5 through 10, Cartoonify Your Friends: A Live Draw-Along. Known as Audity Draws to 12.8 million social media fans, Hopkins will offer an interactive draw-along class where students will learn step-by-step how to create cartoon characters based on their friends, family, or teachers. Participants only need a pencil, paper, and photos of their subjects.
“Just like writer’s block, it’s fairly common for aspiring artists to encounter ‘drawer’s block’ — they want to be creative and practice their drawing ability, but don’t know where to begin. That’s why we’re so excited to offer Audrey’s Cartoonify Your Friends class on the Varsity Tutors platform. It’s the perfect solution to drawer’s block while students also learn how to take any subject, human or animal, and deconstruct it into very drawable shapes and lines,” said Brian Galvin, Chief Academic Officer for Varsity Tutors and class host.
Hopkins began on TikTok in 2019 and now has millions of followers who regularly watch her create characters on her channels. In this 45-minute class, Hopkins will demonstrate how to use reference photos to create characters.
