In an announcement released on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, Random House Graphic and Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced the Dr. Seuss graphic novel publishing program.
The three cartoonists who have been announced as participating in the program’s inaugural round are Art Baltazar (Arkhamaniacs), Kaeti Vandorn (Monster Friends) and James Kochalka (The Glorkian Warrior Eats Adventure Pie). According to the press release, each of them will be contributing additional titles in the future.
Dr. Seuss Graphic Novel Publishing Program
Here are the details that have been announced about the Dr. Seuss graphic novel publishing program, including titles and approximate or specific release dates for the first three books:
“The inaugural Dr. Seuss graphic novel program list features three chapter book series penned by premier comic book creators, each starring an iconic Dr. Seuss character—the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, and Sam-I-Am—in brand-new adventures. The first installment of the Cat in the Hat series, CAT OUT OF WATER, by New York Times bestselling author Baltazar, will be released on April 30, 2024. Next up will be a story featuring the Grinch, told by Vandorn, inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Fall 2024), followed by a Green Eggs and Ham–inspired story featuring Sam-I-Am and told by two-time Eisner Award–winner Kochalka (Spring 2025). The authors will create subsequent titles in each character’s series.
And here are specific details for Cat Out of Water, the first title scheduled for release:
“CAT OUT OF WATER (A Dr. Seuss Graphic Novel) is available for pre-order now, and Random House Graphic released a first look at the cover art today. In CAT OUT OF WATER, it’s a normal day with normal chores for Sally and her brother . . . at least until the Cat in the Hat shows up. The Fish doesn’t want the siblings to let the Cat in, but after some promises to not cause a ruckus (like last time!), the Cat gets his way. Of course, with the help of Thing 1 and Thing 2, hijinks and mayhem ensue while the Fish, Sally, and her brother try to keep their house in order . . . and maybe have A LOT of fun along the way.”
