Summer is here, so they tell us, and soon you’ll be hitting the beach with a cute tankini, some suntan lotion and maybe a big graphic novel to dive into. Well Drawn & Quarterly just made that a lot easier with a 40% off online sale that runs until MOnday, May 29. (If you’re lucky enough to be able to shop at their Librairie Drawn & Quarterly, books are 25% off.
I probably don’t need to tell you that D&Q publishes some of the most amazing graphic novels of our times, but here are a few summer reading suggestions:
• Boundless by Jillian Tamaki– This short story collection is the Raymond Caver/Alice Munro for our times.
• One! Hundred! Demons by Lynda Barry. One of the greatest GNs of all time, a revelatory look at childhood that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. OR The Good Times Are Killing Me, Barry’s award-winning words only novella that examines issues of race and identity. This is seriously some of the best stuff ever by one of our greats.
• Uncomfortably Happily by Yeon-sik Hong A delightful narrative about a couple that go to live on an isolated mountain and what they learn about life and each other. This is a sleeper but well worth your time!
• Or Hostage by Guy Delisle, anything by Shigeru Mizuki, and so on and so on. These are all the kind of complex, deep books that will keep you busy through a whole vacation.
Happy Summer and Happy reading!
Thanks for the heads up and the recommendations. Nothing beats cheap D&Q.
I really enjoy Uncomfortably Happily by Yeon-sik Hong A!
