Brett Bean’s D’Orc, a sales sensation earlier this year that ignited a collecting craze among the comics speculation set earlier this year, just advanced yet another level on the comics success ladder: It has scored a live action movie deal at Sony Pictures, Deadline reports.

Bean himself is attached to write the film adaptation, and posted about the exciting news on Threads.

Deadline describes D’orc as “swashbuckling humor with sprawling magical mythology and creatures wrapped in a gritty, action-driven fantasy adventure” – look, you’d be a fool not to jump all over that! comics to buy for february 4

D’Orc debuted in February immediately launched a speculator frenzy, with the first issue selling for $40 on the after-market before it even came out. But it turns out Bean’s solid cartooning and world-building – aided by coloring by Jean-Francois Beaulieu and lettering by Nate Piekos – made the book a continued success. The first issues is in it’s 8th printing, and the title just debuted glow in the dark covers at NYCC.

Bean is also an artist on the madly successful Dungeon Crawler Carl graphic novel, so the two hit franchises are doubtless contributing to the other’s success.

D’Orc has received good reviews, with AIPT writing:

In addition to scripting D’Orc #1, Bean also draws the entirety of the issue. His style is full of life: characters give off exaggerated expressions that rival a Looney Tunes short, while varying in size and shape. It’s the D’Orc that’s the standout, though, as his orc nature is extremely evident by his bright green skin and pointy ears, while his dwarf nature means he’s constantly being overshadowed by everyone in his path. Equally eye-drawing is his shield, which has a massive eyeball sticking out of it.

Indeed, some good solid cartooning from what I’ve seen. Guess I’d bettter find a copy of #1 to read!

Bean is represented by ChengCaplan Company, InkWell Management and Alexander Lawrence.
