Writer Donny Cates and artist Tradd Moore will launch a new Silver Surfer comic this June.
Dubbed Silver Surfer: Black, the book will follow The Surfer’s adventures after he was sucked into a wormhole (as seen in January’s Guardians of the Galaxy #1). Marvel announced the new book early Friday on its website, also releasing a first issue cover by Moore and a variant from Nick Bradshaw. The series is billed as a mini, although the publisher didn’t specify exactly how many issues.
The Surfer most recently starred in a charming and romantic run from Dan Slott and Mike and Laura Allred. In that story, he travelled to the end of time with his paramour Dawn Greenwood…and then in Guardians of the Galaxy #1 Donny Cates threw him in a black hole. Typical Cates.
Anyway, here’s a quote from editor Darren Shan that accompanied the announcement:

When Donny Cates wrote the first issue of the new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY series, we both agreed that Silver Surfer’s adventure wasn’t going to end there, that there was still more story to be told about what happened to all the cosmic heroes that got sucked into the Black Order’s wormhole. But Donny’s imagination really kicked into gear when artist Tradd Moore signed on! Readers won’t realize it, but SILVER SURFER: BLACK is a culmination of everything Donny has been writing since his THANOS run. And Tradd Moore is delivering some of the craziest visuals seen in a Marvel Comic today!

  1. Nice to know he can find some time to write inbetween backing up Frank Tieri at back-ally bare-knuckle Con fistfights.
