Dominic Monaghan is no stranger to epic stories on the big screen, having appeared in all three Lord of the RingsĀ movies, and heā€™s no stranger to J.J. Abrams, either, having appeared in the series LOST. So perhaps it was inevitable that he would appear in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The first glimpse of Monaghanā€™s character came from a set of images featuring Rise of Skywalkercharacter standees. Monaghanā€™s character appeared alongside other heroes of the Resistance, including Kelly Marie Tranā€™s Rose Tico and Oscar Isaacā€™s Poe Dameron.

At this point itā€™s unclear how large a role Monaghanā€™s character will play, or even the characterā€™s name. He is depicted in the fatigues favored by the fighters of the Resistance, clutching a blaster rifle and wearing a holstered sidearm. Beyond a sense of style that includes some very stylish brown leather boots, there isnā€™t much more that has been revealed about the character.

“A blaster rifle? But what about second weapon?”

Despite the limited information about the character, the first appearance of Monaghan in his Star WarsĀ costume has been warmly embraced on the internet, where Driveshaft devotees and Brandybuck buffs alike have come together to ogle the first images of the Resistanceā€™s newest recruit and marvel at his fresh and fashionable uniform.

Abrams has a reputation for working with familiar actors. The previous Star Wars movie he directed,The Force Awakens, featured Abrams fixtures like Greg GrunbergĀ and Ken Leung, who both had roles alongside Monaghan on LOST.

Will Monaghanā€™s character join the headlining heroes as they face off against the ultimate archetypical evil, or will a time-traveling Scotsman advise him to stay behind at the Resistance base and clean the astromechs? Weā€™ll find out when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in theaters on December 20th, 2019.
