Building on the news of Halle Bailey’s casting as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid remake, Dark Horse announced its own Disney The Little Mermaid comic on Friday.
This announcement expands Dark Horse’s growing line of Disney comics including Disney Frozen: The Hero Within, Disney/Pixar The Incredibles 2: Secret Identities and Disney Zootopia: School Days. Last month, the publisher also launched the first issue of Disney: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; Cecil Castelluci writes that princess series as well as Disney The Little Mermaid.

Aside from her work with Disney, Castelluci is also coming fresh off of her acclaimed DC series, Female Furies, a story of overcoming misogyny in the work place which wrapped up on July 3. She’s also known for her writing work on Soupy Leaves Home, the self-discovery story she created with artist Jose Pimienta.
Zulema Scotto Lavina is working with Castelluci to bring this retelling to life. Though it’s her American debut as a comic artist, you can check out her work, including some Call of Cthulu storyboards on her website as well as her cover below.
The first issue of Disney The Little Mermaid will hit comic shops beginning in October, with two follow-up issues to finish the story.
