DC Comics has launched DC’s Building Bad Sweepstakes, a competition offering fans the chance to co-design and name a new Batman villain. The winner’s creation will debut in the pages of September’s Detective Comics #1113, as well as in downloadable content for the new video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The competition is now open for fans from the United States, Canada, and the UK over the age of 13 to enter until June 1, and you can read the full rules here.

As well as Detective Comics #1113 and the LEGO Batman DLC (also planned for September), the new villain will appear in Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez‘s Batman #14 (which’ll presumably follow in October), and a DC GO! comic on DC Universe Infinite, that’ll coincide with Batman Day (Saturday, September 19).

The winner will be decided and (or their parent/legal guardian) will be contacted on June 2, and receive a $10,000 prize ($13,816.35 in Canada, or £7,483.63). Along with their character going on to become part of the DC Universe, they will also receive a piece of original artwork featuring them. As for the ensuing ownership, you should consult the full rules, but it seems like it’ll be business as usual for DC.

In the meantime, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on Friday, May 22, although those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will be able to play it 72 hours earlier on May 19. You can watch a new video of various DC creators checking out the game in the meantime, including Scott Snyder, Dan Mora, Morgan Hampton, Hayden Sherman, Tate Brombal, and current Detective Comics writer Tom Taylor.

Additionally, Batman #11 and Detective Comics #1111 will be released in July. The former will see Bats clash with the Ojo (formerly known as Lady Death Man), while the latter will mark the penultimate chapter of Taylor and Mikel Janin‘s about the Dark Knight, Green Arrow, and Black Canary facing the legacy of their late comrade Prion.
