Dark Horse Comics has announced a forthcoming art book showcasing the mightiest line of action figures in Eternia. The Toys of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will feature more than 700 pages of photos and information on all of the He-Man toy lines by Mattel, from 1982’s Masters of the Universe to the modern Masters of the Universe Classics reinterpretation. The hardcover art book will be released this November.

Compiled by Val Staples, owner of he-man.org and writer & artist on the 2002 Masters of the Universe comic, and action figure YouTuber Daniel Eardley, aka “Pixel Dan,” The Toys of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will cover every toy, from figures to vehicles to playsets, in the aforementioned toylines, as well as those of the original MOTU spin-off line, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, plus both the late ’80s sci-fi He-Man revamp and the early 2000s relaunch of the line. Also included will be interviews with the line’s designers, and pre-production items from the development of the lines.

The Toys of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is the latest MOTU-inspired book to come from Dark Horse. The publisher has previously released a compilation of the many mini-comics that came with the figures, as well as an art book for the beautiful painted packaging art from the line, and guides for both the characters and the animated series.

The Masters of the Universe toyline was hugely influential in the ’80s, and the longevity and popularity of the line and its characters (who in the last few years have appeared in numerous DC Comics series, including crossovers with the DCU and the Thundercats) is a testament to the work that went into crafting the figures and their accompanying mini-comics. I have many fond memories of playing with MotU figures as a child, and I’m excited to check out this book once it’s released.

Check out the full cover for the forthcoming book, as well as the full text of the announcement, below. With a cover price of $59.99, the oversized The Toys of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe hardcover is due out from Dark Horse on November 25th, 2020.
