SAM HAWTHORNE: An Extra Layer of Onions

Creators: Jakob Luedtke (Creator)
Goal: $1,663
End Date: October 12
Goodies: Get the digital edition for $8, the physical copy for $28, or the hardcover for $45.

Grumpy, cynical, and spending way too much time trying to look cool in a second hand suit. Sam solves every case, one hotdog at a time.

At first glance it seems like this is just another project, that was until reading the bio for Jacob Luiedtke a 19 year old from Berlin Germany. He’s the creator of Sam Hawthorne his take on a tough as nails detective who just wants to take it easy. I couldn’t help but check out the comic that for just $8 can be yours. I’m excited to see why Sam has such a love for hotdogs and solving crime, all behind the idea of a 19 year old. Check out the project page, its worth a look.

Power Bug

Creators: Jaedyn Carmichael (Writer), Joao Leal Luiz (Artist)
Goal: $1,000
End Date: October 5
Goodies: Get a limited edition digital cover for $5 and the Power Bug: Synergi Archive for $15.

Through blood, sweat and tears, Virgil Starshine will prevail and to become the hero the world needs.

So this project has no promise of a physical release, in fact it just started and it is off to a slow pace. That being said I couldn’t help but look over the art on the project page. The design for power bug looks fantastic, kind of reminded me of a tokusatsu inspired ranger and I couldn’t help but want more. The comic is still very much a work in progress but for just $5 you can have your own art and support an independent artist. I can’t help but want more.

In addition to pitching a redesigned second release of Good Girl Laika, he now brings us the third volume of his ongoing series, Solace County! We did a piece on Good Girl Laika many moons ago, and here at The Beat, we’re absolutely thrilled to see Smith return with another exciting project. Don’t miss out—check it out before it’s too late!
