Among the many highlights DC Studios co-head James Gunn revealed as part of the first phase of the new direction of the DC Universe, dubbed “Gods and Monsters,” was a Creature Commandos animated series. Thanks to a Collider exclusive, the voice cast for the animated series was announced.
Unsurprisingly, Sean Gunn, brother of the aforementioned James Gunn, is reprising his role as Weasel as well as voicing the characer of G.I. Robot. Joining him is Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos.
According to the original announcement, Creature Commandos is a seven-episode animated show in which Amanda Waller creates a black ops team out of monstrous prisoners; Gunn wrote all the episodes of the first season.
Unsurprisingly, the Creature Commandos animated series features Gunn’s regular players/friends. Fun fact! Alan Tudyk’s wife, Charissa Barton, choreographed the phenomenal Peacemaker opening credits dance sequence. Likewise actress Maria Bakalova worked with Gunn as the voice of Cosmo the Space Dog in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which hits theaters next month.
Bakalova isn’t the only one double dipping in both the Marvel Universe as well as the DC Universe. MCU fans probably know Frank Grillo best for his role as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones. Likewise David Harbour had his MCU debut as Red Guardian in 2021’s Black Widow, a role he is set to reprise in the upcoming Thunderbolts film. Though it’s easy to forget, Harbour actually appeared in the DCEU in the much maligned 2016 Suicide Squad film as National Security Advisor Dexter Tolliver.
Keep your eyes peeled right here for more details as they’re announced.
