Courtesy of Dark Horse Comics, we can exclusively reveal the publisher and CD Projekt Red are teaming up again on a new Cyberpunk 2077 series, Cyberpunk 2077: Psycho Squad. Created by writer Dan Watters (Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!) with artist Kieran McKeown (Dragon Age: The Missing), colorist Giada Marchisio (Profane), and letterer Frank Cvetkovic (Cyberpunk 2077: Kickdown), the four-part comic will showcase Night City’s elite police force MaxTac, who specialize in dealing with those driven to violence by their cybernetic augmentations (or cyberpsychos, to use the video game’s parlance.)
In Cyberpunk 2077: Psycho Squad MaxTac, one of the deadliest and most controversial forces in Night City, is deployed against a corpo netrunner turned cyberpsycho. The squad’s mission is to eliminate the target and save lives as long as nothing goes wrong. But with the building on lockdown, the psycho has the facilities and its occupants wired for destruction!
Despite their relatively small role in the game, MaxTac have proven to be one of the most iconic factions in Cyberpunk 2077, having been featured in the project’s very first trailer in 2013, which depicted the squad dealing with a female cyberpsycho. (This particular psycho was later revealed to be named Melissa Rory, and to have been recruited by the group after her rehabilitation in an in-game side-mission.) The series marks Watters’s first foray into the world of Cyberpunk, and his first book for Dark Horse too.
Cyberpunk 2077: Psycho Squad #1 will be released on February 12, with a main cover by McKeown and Marchisio, and variants by Miguel Valderrama (Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team), Alex Eckman-Lawn (Lotus Land), and Niko Henrichon (Fables). You can check those out below, and pre-order the book from your local comic shop now. In the meantime, the fourth and final issue of the current Cyberpunk series, Cyberpunk 2077: Kickdown, will be released on November 20, and the whole series will be collected in paperback on March 11.
