In September, IDW will publish the third title under its new Crime imprint, with writer Amy Chase and artist Savanna Mayer taking the helm for the three-issue vamp fest Fixation. Today, The Beat can exclusively reveal the neon fever dream variant covers for issue #1, as well as Mayer’s variant for issue #2.

Fixation follows besties and vampire fangirls Taylor and Karrah, who win a contest to stay in the house where the hit movie Blood Mountain was filmed. But before the weekend even begins, a young woman is found dead inside the house…

Here’s the full synopsis:

When superfan Taylor Van Owens wins a contest to stay in the legendary Mallard house—the most iconic filming location for the hit vampire book turned movie Blood Mountain—she and her best friend Karrah arrive in Vail expecting to sink their fangs into a weekend straight from a fangirl’s dream. The cast has reunited for a tenth-anniversary celebration, devotees have descended on the small town, and nostalgia hangs thick in the air.
But shortly before their arrival, a young woman is found dead inside the Mallard house.

The death is quickly brushed off as an unstable fan taking her fantasies too far, but rumors swirl as the police quietly open a murder investigation. With cameras rolling and ravenous Blood Mountain buffs to appease, production works overtime to keep the story from leaking, insisting the fandom is “one big family,” but unease spreads through the town. Resentful locals, jealous superfans, sensitive actors, and desperate producers overwhelm Taylor as she moves in a haze through meet-and-greets, vigils, and book signings. Every interaction feels loaded. Every corner holds a potential threat. Every vampire has a taste for blood.

And the killer isn’t finished. They’ll stain the town red to ensure they go down in Blood Mountain history. This isn’t just a random act of violence—it’s a crime of passion a decade in the making.

Blending true-crime tension with razor-sharp commentary on fandom and toxic addictions, Fixation is a chilling mystery in which everyone has a motive and the least threatening person in the room may actually be the most dangerous of all.

“Working on Fixation has been an absolute scream! Savanna, myself, and our lovely editor Riley Farmer are all dyed-in-the-wool fans of teen drama vampire media, so it’s been twisted fun turning a fangirl’s dream into a nightmare scenario,” said Chase in a statement for The Beat.

“That language of obsession and passion comes very naturally to us. And since so much of the team, including colorist James Fenner, have backgrounds in horror as well, I hope readers enjoy all of the detail and dread that’s going into this crime story,” Chase continued. “Our poor protagonist Taylor has no idea what genre she’s truly a part of, but she’s going to find out!”

“This is a love letter to all vampire fans who felt seen or found in movies like The Lost Boys, books like Twilight, and in music like HIM. It feels good to want to invite the vampire in from the safety behind the looking glass, but this is what happens when the real killer invites themself in and looks back,” said Mayer.

Fixation #1 will be available digitally and at your local comic shop on September 9. Pre-orders are due August 3.
