200906171203The San Diego Comic-Con is 40 and fabulous this year, and the show is celebrating in various ways. They are releasing a new retrospective book, Comic-Con: 40 Years of Artists, Writers, Fans, and Friends , a bountifully illustrated history of the con and the first book of its kind. Also, they are bringing back as guests a wide swath of people who have contributed to the show in its early years, including some who have been to all 40. As a 25+ year vet ourselves, we see some old faces from the mists of time, and there’s sure to be a lot of reminiscing over the origins and development of the biggest show on earth.

  1. The cover is reproduced on the latest SDCC magazine, and featured within. I was able to look at the finished book at BEA, and it is CHOCK FULL of amazing minutiae! It will launch at the Con, so get in line early, it will sell out fast!

Would the kind folks of CCI:SD please PLEASE PLEEEEEEASE publish the wrap-around cover as a poster?

  5. But is the book only available at the show? Will Diamond carry the book?

If not available except at the show, what a valuable premium for attendees, but what a terrible loss for the rest of us who cannot attend every year.

  7. To clarify:

If you’re attending the show, the book can be pre-ordered for $31.99 (incl. CA tax) from the website by clicking here. OR, you can buy it at the Comic-Con Booth in the Exhibit Hall at cover price of $40 plus CA tax. (Details are all on that link).

AFTER THE SHOW, you’ll be able to buy the book from a number of sources, including the publisher, Chroniclebooks.com that Torsten listed above. So, either way, you’ll be able to get your hands on it. Though if you’ve got a membership to the show, it’s DEFINITELY worth ordering early! It’s chock full of GOODIES!
