Looking for something to do in New York City this grey, spring weekend? How about a little cultured comic artist appreciation? From 12-6pm today and Sunday (and through May 1) you can check out POW! at Brooklyn art center happylucky no. 1 on Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights. It features paintings by comic artists Reilly Brown (Deadpool, Amazing Spider-Man), David Klein (Doom 2099, The Golem’s Voice), Ellen Lindner (Black Feather Falls, Undertow), and friend of this reporter Simon Fraser (Doctor Who, 2000AD).
Check out some photos of the work below, which really should be seen in person to be appreciated (the canvases are huge: 6 to 8 feet in most cases).

There’s also work from artists who are clearly influenced by comic and popular art, like this from self-taught artist Demetrios Zissiadis:
The show runs through May 1st at happylucky no.1 at 734 Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn. It’s open Wednesday and Friday (12-5pm) as well as the weekends and by appointment.
