Vault Comics’ Heathen is getting the Hollywood treatment and now the film adaptation has its director. Catherine Hardwicke, famous for directing Twilight, has jumped on board to direct the Viking fantasy adventure in conjunction with Constantin Film and Prime Universe Films.

Based on the popular series created, written, and drawn by Natasha Alterici (with letters by Rachel Deering), the film’s script will be handled by writer Kerry Williamson. Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer and Margo Klewans and Prime Universe Film’s Adrian Askarieh are producing along with F.J. DeSanto. Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz and Vault CEO Damian Wassel will executive produce.

The story focuses on the warrior Aydis, an outcast gay woman born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women. She is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin. The acclaimed series was selected by the Young Adult Library Service Association to be included in its 2018 “Great Graphic Novels For Teens” list.

In addition to the film, the comic released a second story arc this past June with issue #7 and Ashley Woods (Ladycastle, Tomb Raider) taking over art duties. The first four issues are available in a volume 1 trade paperback. For more on the continuing Heathen saga, head to Vault’s website.
