Illustrator J Madmartigan shares some holiday art, including his recreation of a famed Dell Comics cover.

The new issue of Revolver magazine salutes the rock greats who died this year, and has a special painted cover by JG Jones, artists of such things as WANTED and FINAL CRISIS. The cover depicts Ronnie James Dio, Slipknot’s Paul Gray, Avenged Sevenfold’s the Rev, Type O Negative’s Peter Steele, Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell, Metallica’s Cliff Burton, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Ozzy Osbourne’s Randy Rhoads, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, and Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley and it is available as a free poster in the issue. rocking together in heaven. This month's Rock Sound magazine has a big poster of My Chemical Romance drawn by Becky Cloonan. You may recall that the new MCR album is very very SF, and Cloonan is supposed to be drawing a comic written by frontman Gerard Way that ties in with the adventures of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Nice, but where's Grant Morrison?

It's been a little bit since we saw an indie comic get picked up by a mainstream publisher, but after many months of rumors, it is true: Andy Runton's popular Owly character is a getting a full color book, to be published in March by Simon & Schuster. The book is licensed from Top Shelf, which has been Owly's home for five books and six years.

Over at tropical toxic, the blog of artist twins Asaf and Tomer Hanuka, they share some concept art for an animated version of HARD APPLE, a crime series based on the work of Jerome Charyn.
