It's been a little bit since we saw an indie comic get picked up by a mainstream publisher, but after many months of rumors, it is true: Andy Runton's popular Owly character is a getting a full color book, to be published in March by Simon & Schuster. The book is licensed from Top Shelf, which has been Owly's home for five books and six years.

Over at tropical toxic, the blog of artist twins Asaf and Tomer Hanuka, they share some concept art for an animated version of HARD APPLE, a crime series based on the work of Jerome Charyn.

"Adam Baumgold Gallery presents an exhibition of 100 intimately scaled graphite on vellum drawings by Renée French from her new graphic novel "h day1" as well as recent portrait drawings from December 7 - January 15, 2011. This is Renee French's first New York solo exhibition."

Tonight the World War 3 crew celebrates their 30th anniversary with a gallery show at Exit Art. This politically-minded group of artists and cartoonists has been covering issues with art and making stars like Peter Kuper and Seth Tobocman in the process. Alex Toth fans rejoice. Dean Mullaney and Bruce Canwell's long-awaited book on Toth, including a biography and little seen art -- has expanded to a three volume, slip-cased edition, to be published by IDW. Toth's children, Dana and Eric, were consulted in the writing process and it promises to be a comprehensive, lavishly illustrated affair. The first volume, Genius Isolated, ships in March 2011 and spotlights his early work and life until the 60s. Genius, Illustrated follows his life in Animation, and Genius Animated includes little seen animation models and drawings. A slipcase will ship with the third volume.
