BOOM! Studios has released a five-page preview of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow #1. The five-issue miniseries from writer Mariko Tamaki, artist Natacha Bustos, colorist Eleonora Bruni, and letterer Jodi Wyne picks up Willow Rosenberg’s story following the events of the Buffy/Angel: Hellmouth crossover. In the aftermath of those tragic events, Willow has left Sunnydale to do some soul-searching. The preview finds her across the pond, searching for a place to fit in, and not necessarily finding it.
BOOM! teases that this miniseries will “plant the seeds for a future no one could have predicted,” so I’ll make a wild prediction now: Willow becomes a vampire. Wait, they’ve done that before. Uh…Willow becomes an evil witch. Scratch that, they’ve done that, too. How about: Willow converts to the Church of England. That’s probably it. I’ll have to read the miniseries to find out if my prediction comes true.
Check out the five-page preview, along with covers by artists Jen Bartel, Mirka Andolfo, and Rosemary Valero O’Connell, below. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow #1 (of 5) is due out in comic shops on July 8th, 2020.
* After everything – and everyone – she lost to the Hellmouth, Willow is leaving Sunnydale behind for a new school that promises “to help you prioritize your true self.”
* But Willow soon learns that all is not as it seems, and if your true self isn’t what the school thinks it should be…well, don’t worry, they’ll help you get there. By any means necessary.
* Now, truly alone for the first time in her life, Willow must rely only on her instincts – and her magic – to save herself from a different kind of threat than Buffy ever prepared her to face!
