Following up on last month’s announcement that Wynd would be transitioning from graphic novel to single issues, BOOM! Studios has provided The Beat with an exclusive first look at Wynd character designs and art from Michael Dianlynas (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The series is written by James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children, Batman), and lettered by Aditya Bidikar (Isola).

Wynd reunites Tynion and Dianlynas after their GLAAD Award-winning series The Woods. It takes place in a world where people can be killed for their magical heritage, and for that reason, the title’s title-boy, Wynd, has been forced to hide his identity and pointed ears to avoid persecution. When that secret is threatened, he’s pushed out of Pipetown on a dangerous quest with a royal conspiracy at its heart.

The series was originally planned to launch as a graphic novel from the BOOM! Box imprint this November, but as COVID-19 pushed retailers into a difficult position, the publisher moved to help. By turning Wynd into several 40-page issues (with some big names attached), BOOM! hopes to provide more product, and therefore more sales, to struggling comic shops.

Wynd #1 hits shelves next week, on June 17. Below, we’ve got a first look at character designs, and Pipetown itself, in Dialynas’ animated style. If that’s not enough, be sure to check out the series’ trailer here.
