“Into every generation a slayer is born…” You know the quote, especially if you’re a diehard Buffy follower. Now fans of Joss Whedon’s Emmy Award-winning show can purchase every issue of Buffy from previous publishers in a graphic novel series beginning with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Legacy Edition Book One. BOOM! Studios, in partnership with 20th Century Fox, also promises that each issue will be in chronological order and out-of-print, rare stories will be included.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network in March 1997 and ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. The show starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, the slayer chosen to battle vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. What sets Buffy apart from other slayers, however, is her connection to her circle of friends, “the Scooby Gang,” and her familial relationship with her Watcher, Giles (Anthony Steward Head).
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Legacy Edition Book One is set during the third season of the television series and features stories by writers such as Andi Watson, Jen Van Meter, Christopher Golden, and Dan Brereton. The special graphic novel edition features a stunning cover by Nimit Malavia.
The tales are untold stories of the Scooby Gang and their fight against evil in Sunnydale—all while trying not to fail their high school exams. As Buffy faces the consequences of saving the world, which includes killing Angel, the rest of the team faces their own challenges, such as Angel returning to life sans soul and Willow helping Oz confront the beast inside. Oh and Xander and Cordelia kiss, launching their tumultuous relationship.
“Buffy is such a beloved television series and it’s managed to build an amazing legacy of game-changing stories in comic book format over the years,” says Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We’re excited to collect all those stories in a deluxe set of softcover editions for fans who are looking to enjoy all that the Buffyverse has to offer—including essential stories about favorite characters they might have missed when they were first released.”
Fans can also collect every issue of Angel from previous publishers in chronological order, including hard-to-find and out-of-print stories in Angel: Legacy Edition Book One, featuring work by the Emmy Award-winning writer David Fury, New York Times bestselling author Christopher Golden, and five-time Eisner Award-winning artist Eric Powell. This collected edition will be available in October 2019.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Legacy Edition Book One will be available in April 2020 in comic shops, bookstores, and on BOOM! Studios’ webstore. Digital copies can be found on comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
