Dark Horse Comics and DC Comics have announced Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice!, a five-issue crossover miniseries between the two publishers. Written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated by Michael Walsh, the series will see the heroes of the Black Hammer universe collide with the Justice League. The debut issue of the series will sport covers by Walsh, Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, Yanick Paquette, and Yuko Shimizo.
Here’s how the publisher describes the series:

In Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice, a strange man arrives simultaneously on the Black Hammer Farm and in Metropolis. Both worlds are warped as Starro attacks! Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Superman, and more crossover with Golden Gail, Colonel Weird, and the rest of the Black Hammer gang!

Based on the revealed covers it looks like the heroes of the different universes may be swapping places, putting the Justice League on the farm and Abraham Slam, Barbalien, Golden Gail, and co. into the DCU.
Lemire is the co-creator of Black Hammer with artist Dean Ormston; he’s also written a few different iterations of the Justice League as part of DC’s New 52 lineup of titles. Part of what’s great about Black Hammer is the degree to which the series is a love letter to classic superhero stories. Each of the main characters is a pastiche of a different hero—Golden Gail for Shazam/Captain Marvel, Barbalien for Martian Manhunter, Colonel Weird for Adam Strange, and so on—so to see those characters interact with their inspirations could be a lot of fun. Part of me also hopes that the characters never directly meet each other, instead just swapping worlds and having to navigate those differences as they find their way home. Whatever happens, Lemire’s Black Hammer hasn’t let me down yet, so I’m sure it’ll be a good story.

Getting this great opportunity to work with an artist like Michael Walsh to bring the Black Hammer and DC universes together for a special story was just too much fun.
