We don’t need us to tell you that it’s tough times in the heartland of America these days. Slowing manufacturing, a recession that never really ended in some places, and a recovery that has failed to ignite.

Luckily, one thing has come to the Steel belt to liven things up — superhero movies. With Batman filming in Pittsburgh, Superman in Chicago, and now The Avengers in Cleveland (standing in for NYC? Ooooooookay) it’s been boom times for photographers.

Here’s the latest Avengers leaked photos, showing Cap and Thor battling mocapped Hydra or someone goons.

Oh yeah, chug that Snapple, Chris, take it all.

Wow, I am SO going to go see this movie.

Considering that an entire scene of the movie was supposed to be rewritten after blackmailers revealed a page online, all these set photos seem awfully spoiler-y.

But WHO CARES, OHMIGOD, I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE AVENGERS.

  1. Yeah, too bad about Cap’s mask. I know Hollywood likes their stars seen more than the characters that they portray but perhaps there’s a reason for unmasking him. Who knows. Hydra is not dumb, if they could ID Capt. America in society they would nail him seven ways to Sunday.

It is funny, after the Civil War comic event where Cap was so adamant about *not* taking off his mask (to the point of taking on the government) but on the silver screen it seems everyone knows his name and face.

  2. Thor’s costume does look “cheap.”
Certainly the Prince of Asgard can afford better.

The pictures seems like there should be “POW” superimposed like the sixties Batman TV show.

  3. Candid set pics like these always, always, always look goofy and cheap. It’s some sort of natural law like gravity.

Thor’s costume will look as God-like as it should once it gets filtered through the cinematography/editing/HD camera/lens/color correcting/projection process known as “making a movie.”

  4. “and now The Avengers in Cleveland (standing in for NYC? Ooooooookay)”

New Yorkers can be such assholes.

Who’s to say he even has a secret identity in the present in the films? They ditched that in the first film for Iron Man, they might simply do the same for Captain America.

  6. Who’s to say he even has a secret identity in the present in the films?

Secret identities might be anachronistic. They seemed to me to be based on a chain of reasoning that started with, “Unless he hides his identity, the authorities will apprehend him, criminals will threaten his family, etc.,” but since the publishers never provided rationales for the massed existence of the heroes and villains, and the characters often went into suspended animation between issues anyway, the reasoning was spurious. As long as the plot for a given storyline makes sense, there’s no point in hypothesizing about what everyone else is doing off the pages.

  7. “and now The Avengers in Cleveland (standing in for NYC? Ooooooookay)”

What’s the big deal? How about all the times Los Angeles has stood in for New York? I think Escape From New York was actually filmed (partially) in St. Louis.

  8. Thor’s costume looks “cheap”? Cap isn’t blond enough? Have we as an internet community actually sunk so low as to judge a film based on surreptitiously shot footage from a cell phone camera? I feel relatively confident in saying this video is not actually a finished scene from the movie and will look substantially better once the film is in theaters.

Or have I just spectacularly missed the pure irony in these posts?

  9. a Cleveland joke? really? let us have our moment! They’re filming a scene tonight in the middle of downtown that they’ve remade to be Stuttgart. all about the angles.

But seriously, it has been tremendous for this town. Even the announcers for the ballgame tonight are making comments about Thor. and those mo-goons? waaaaaaaaaaay cooler than HYDRA….
