Ever since Riverdale became an off-kilter cult hit on the CW, people have been wondering “When is Sabrina coming back to the small, streaming screen?” And now you have the answer: it’s in development for the CW as THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, a new one-hour dark drama/horror project.

The show is in development for the 2018-19 season with Riversale showrunner and Archie CCO  Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing, Lee Toland Krieger directing, and tthe ubiquitous, all-powerful Greg Berlanti producing along with Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, Aguirre-Sacasa and Krieger serve as executive producers.

A previous Sabrina TV show debuted in 1996, starring Melissa Joan Hart and ran for 7 seasons, so the 90s nostalgia factor is high with this one.

Sabrina is, as the title suggests, a teen with magical powers, and an adorable black cat. All bases covered!

Get ready for an intense look into the world of magic and witchcraft with THE CHILLING SABRINA will draw from the critically acclaimed CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA comic book series from Archie Comics written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack, detailing the compelling and shocking re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s occult origins. This dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.

Casting and additional news on the new series will be revealed in the months to come.

  1. If they make this as nasty as the comic, I’d be surprised. That would be way cooler than the standard CW approach.
