Chilling news! In a post made to Instagram on Thursday, October 7th, 2021, Kiernan Shipka revealed that she would be reprising the role of Sabrina Spellman in Riverdale season six!

Childe Jugge to the Dark Tower came

In the show’s fifth season finale, “Chapter Ninety-Five: RIVERDALE: RIP(?),” it seems as though the supernatural is coming to Riverdale. After Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petch) discovered her ancestor, Abigail Blossom, was a witch, Cheryl recites Abigail’s curse and resurrects her spirit (what could go wrong when a Riverdale resident practices witchcraft? See: Betty & Veronica in the ongoing Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic).

But this isn’t the first suggestion that something supernatural might be going down in Riverdale!

For one thing, Sabrina’s town of residence, Greendale, is just across the Sweetwater River from Riverdale. In fact, in “Chapter Fourteen: A Kiss Before Dying,” we even saw scenes set in Greendale on Riverdale. In The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix, we learned that Greendale was the site where Lucifer landed after being expelled from Heaven (hence its status as a nexus between universes).

But while the nexus may connect the mortal realm with Hell, it also seems like it may connect Riverdale with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. No doubt things will be more clear when the sixth season of Riverdale premieres, but in the meantime, at least we’ll have plenty of witch adventures to pass the time in the panels of Archie Comics, between the release of new Sabrina stories in digests and the much-anticipated return of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic, whose ninth issue will arrive at your local comic shop next Wednesday, October 13th, 2021.
