Last year saw the release of Diana: Princess of the Amazons, the first middle-grade DC Comics graphic novel written by the team of Shannon Hale and Dean Hale. Illustrated by Victoria Ying, the book was a success for DC’s young readers line of graphic novels, going to a second printing shortly after its release. Now Shannon & Dean Hale are back with a new book for DC Comics, Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld. Slated for release in early November, the book will be illustrated by Asiah Fulmore. No letterer was named in the book’s announcement.

Along with the announcement, Shannon Hale and Fulmore have debuted the cover art and first look images for the upcoming book via social media:

Here’s how DC describes Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld:

Amaya, Princess of House Amethyst in Gemworld, is something of a troublemaker. She and her brother have great fun together until a magical prank goes much too far and her parents ground her…to Earth! They hope a whole week in the mundane world will teach her that magic is a privilege…and maybe washing dishes by hand will help her realize the palace servants should be respected.

Three years later, Amy has settled into middle school and ordinary life. She doesn’t remember any other home. So when a Prince of the Realm brings her home and restores her magical destiny, how will she cope?

Created by Dan MishkinGary Cohn, and Ernie Colón, Amethyst made her first appearance back in 1983, and has appeared sporadically in the years since. The character has experienced something of a resurgence lately after Brian Michael Bendis brought her and the Gemworld mythology into the latest Young Justice series as part of the Wonder Comics imprint. Following her reintroduction, Amethyst starred in an excellent six-issue miniseries written and illustrated by Amy Reeder.

Given the Hales’ established track record and fanbase, this new graphic novel is sure to bring Amethyst to a wider audience than ever before. Look for Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld to arrive in stores on Tuesday, November 9th.
