Death Transit Tanager Known primarily for his work on Gotham AcademyBatman: Black & White, his creator-owned series ISOLA, and the critically acclaimed Eisner-winning web series, The Abominable Charles Christopher, Karl Kerschl is now offering his new series Death Transit Tanager for free online. The sci-fi/manga-inspired story is described as “a cross between Metroid and Hellboy.”

Check out the synopsis:

Death Transit Tanager chronicles the adventures of a young woman, Tanager Ray, who is gifted (or possibly cursed) with the ability to communicate with the dead. As a registered Death Transit, it’s her job to ferry the souls of the dead to the afterlife, whether she wants to or not. Issue #1 follows Tanager as she investigates an abandoned mining asteroid in an effort to help an old, heartbroken space trucker.

Kerschl explains:

“I started this series to cope with life in quarantine and it quickly took over my creative brain. All of my years of reading and loving manga have been channeled into this story and every page makes me happy.

“It’s important for me to be able to make my work available for free to anyone who wants to read it, without commitment. I can build an audience for the comic who can then choose to support it if they like it, either by purchasing digital and print collections or through the website subscription. Monthly subscribers to my site have been reading along as I post new pages, but I’m excited for the rest of the world to finally read the whole first issue.”
