Vampire Girlfriends by Ayanna Johnson Steptoe is an adorable slice-of-life comic that follows the lives of two vampiric lovers, Tabitha and Poppy.

Vampire Girlfriends

Both have their own undead style, but they’re a perfect pairing, complimenting one another’s personalities perfectly (even though Poppy is 293 years old and Tabitha is 557).

As the story advances, we get to meet other supernatural characters too, like Misha (another vampire, and friend from Tabitha’s past) and her mysterious associate, Akeyo, a werewolf from Kenya (Poppy has some issues with werewolves but she’s able to keep it together well enough, all things considered).

The vampires in this comic each have their own unique sense of style. While it may be clear that they are undead from the first glance, they each show off their undead status in a different way.

Vampire Girlfriends

And if you’re looking for a suitably spooky seasonal read, then Vampire Girlfriends is perfect for you: there’s even an episode that sees Tabitha and Poppy attending the Supernatural Society’s annual Hallow’s Eve get together… which is where we meet Eryka (not her real name), a 689-year-old witch who works as a comics publisher (be still my heart).

Vampire Girlfriends
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, dooo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo! (Doo-doo doo-doo-doo-doo)

However, while Vampire Girlfriends is a slice-of-life comic, they are vampires, and sometimes their “slice-of-life” adventures include things like meeting a doppelgänger vision, or confirming that the undead really should not consume human food.
