There’s definitely a flurry of activity over at TokyoPop and they’re playing The Mouse Card. Headlining this are a couple of Nightmare Before Christmas projects, first a manga adaption due out in September by Jun Asuka. Then an actual sequel to the film.
Per the Hollywood Reporter:
Manga publisher Tokyopop has secured a license for the first-ever Nightmare Before Christmas comic book project that expands the story beyond what was seen in Tim Burton’s beloved 1993 holiday tale. The follow-up, Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey, will follow Jack Skellington’s dog, Zero, as he gets lost in Christmas Town.
The Spring release will be written by DJ Milky and drawn by Studio DICE. Studio DICE handled art for the Beauty and the Beast Manga.
Also reported is a 5 volume sequel to 2005’s (also 5 volume) Kilala Princess series, which involves the Kilala character meeting the Disney Princesses.
If you were curious what Nightmare Before Christmas manga looks like, here’s a preview:
Do you know if the manga is a new adaptation or a rerelease of the one that came out around 10 years ago?
The actual adaptation is a reprint.
(Comparing the above preview to the 2005 edition found on Amazon.)
Disney Press printed an edition in 2005. 9780786838493
Since royalties are only paid for the first printing worldwide, it’s cheap to license Disney comics which have been published elsewhere,
The original material is being written by Stu Levy., so that will also save on expenses.
