Rebellion have announced the next crossover between 2000 AD and the monthly Judge Dredd Megazine, and it is distinctly Rogue Trooper-themed: Nordland Rising. The event will take place across 2000 AD Prog 2400 and Judge Dredd Megazine #472, both releasing September 18.
Nordland Rising will see Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper be joined by war veterans from across the history of 2000 AD (and beyond) take on the fascistic enemy army from the Rogue Trooper series. Characters expected to make an appearance will include Bad Company, Fiends of the Eastern Front, The VCs, Jaegir, and Major Eazy. All this ahead of the follow up to acclaimed 2023 Garth Ennis & Patrick Goddard Rogue Trooper story, Blighty Valley – taking place the week after, in 2000 AD Prog 2401.
According to a press release:
“War Has Been Declared!
“This September, the Nort Army are setting out to conquer the 2000 AD Multiverse – and it’s going to take some unlikely allies to stop them!
“The massive crossover event story Nordland Rising will see Rogue Trooper’s oldest enemies invade multiple different storylines from across 2000 AD‘s history, as they take on Judge Dredd, Bad Company, Fiends of the Eastern Front, The VCs and more. Spread across 2000 AD Prog 2400 and Judge Dredd Megazine 472, this is an all-out action assault – and The Norts aren’t taking any prisoners!”
Some of the named creators involved in the Nordland Rising crossover event include Ken Niemand, John McCrea, Peter Milligan, Ian Edginton, Nick Percival, Dan Abnett, Gordon Rennie, and Simon Coleby.
Crossover events between the two major titles in the Rebellion stable have started to become an annual tradition – starting with 2022’s zombie event (2000 AD Prog 2300/Judge Dredd Megazine #448) commemorating the 30th anniversary of Dredd epic Judgement Day; and last year’s Battle Action crossover that reimagined vintage characters from the fondly remembered war anthology with a 2000 AD scifi twist (2000 AD Prog 2350/Judge Dredd Megazine #460). This third event coincides with Rebellion’s big push for new and reprint Rogue Trooper material ahead of the Duncan Jones-directed big screen adaptation.
Post-event, 2000 AD Prog 2401 promises to act as an additional jumping on point – featuring the sequel to Judge Dredd: A Better World, by Rob Williams, Arthur Wyatt, and Jake Lynch; the latest series of Dan Abnett and Mark Harrison’s fan favourite out-of-this-world scifi saga The Out; and Garth Ennis and Patrick Goddard’s already-teased new Rogue Trooper tale When A GI Dies
