Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi has not been released yet, but LucasFilms and Disney are already thinking a step ahead. Today, the release date for Star Wars: Episode IX was revealed via a blog post on starwars.com. The film does not yet have a catchy subtitle, but it will be in theaters on May 24th, 2019. The release date marks a departure from the December launch month that has recently been claimed by films from the Star Wars franchise.
Directed by Safety Not Guaranteed and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, Star Wars: Episode IX will mark the conclusion of the third Star Wars trilogy. Who will live? Who will die? What totalitarian intergalactic regime will inevitably rise to fill the shoes of the First Order in Star Wars: Episode X? Who knows.
For now though, revel in this small droplet of information and enjoy the trailer to Star Wars VIII, which hits theaters on December 15th.
Still won’t be real Star Wars. Legends is the real Star Wars.
