The 2018 Eisner Award nominations are out, and it’s a MONSTROUS years, with Emil Ferris’s My Favorite Thing is Monsters continuing its awards rampage with five nominations and Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda also garnering five nods.

Image and Fantagraphics led the way with 16 nominations each.

This year’s nominations have some deep cuts – I don’t think you would have picked those five nominations in the Best New Graphic Novel category in a million years – unless you were judges librarian Candice Mack (Los Angeles Public Library), comics reviewer/journalist Graeme McMillan (i09, Wired, Hollywood Reporter), comics retailer Tate Ottati (Tate’s Comics, Lauderhill, FL), comics scholar Nhora Serrano (Hamilton College, Clinton, NY), writer/artist/educator Alexander Simmons (Blackjack, Scooby Doo, Archie; Kids Comic Con), and longtime Comic-Con volunteer William Wilson (anime/manga expert).

Voting for the awards is held online, and the ballot is available at www.eisnervote.com. All professionals in the comic book industry are eligible to vote. The deadline for voting is June 15. The results of the voting will be announced in a gala awards ceremony on the evening of Friday, July 20 at Comic-Con in San Diego.

  1. I think my favourite categories and ones to select further reading from for me are the Reality based work and Teens Aged 13-17. Read and liked some of these, interested in the others and who wins. That’s categories outside of New series, etc.

  2. Really interesting selections. Think its really gross that pros are on twitter basically demanding to be nominated instead of someone like Ferris because “she only uses bic pens, she’s not a pro colorist!”
    Its ugly and gatekeeper-y.
