That was doubtless inflated by the 3D conversion, so, sadly, studios will keep doing it and keep making movies less watchable.
Continue ReadingSome changes at Image Comics, which had a dynamite 2010 with the success of WALKING DEAD and many new series. As announced in a press release, Top Cow, which has functioned pretty much independently of Image for marketing and PR, will be moving some of its operations to the Image Central office, coordinating more production, marketing and sales efforts. Top Cow had a big hit in 2010 with ARTIFACTS, a big event crossover for their long running WITCHBLADE and DARKNESS franchises, but they don't have a huge publishing program and some consolidation seems like a move to strengthen both companies.

Continue ReadingObviously, DC doesn't want to risk losing the dollars of its core audience in the hopes of gaining a broader selection of readers. What if those new readers don't come? Hey, that’s a serious and valid question. Money isn't exactly pouring in. Taking a risk is scary when a comic selling 25,000 copies is considered a solid book. And so...you do nothing. You make awkward jokes when fans ask questions at cons. You put minority characters who rarely appear in big pose down images as if they are an integral part of the story. You hope to keep complaints from both sides to a very low rumbling.
