We totally admit to having stolen the above graphic -- juxtaposing the Scott PIlgrim trailer's treatment of the Seven Evil Ex-boyfriends with the comics, from Comics Alliance. So we'll just direct you to their panel by panel examination of how the trailer reflects the comics. We'll also direct you to Splash Page, which has their "Five Favorite Scott PIlgrim Trailer Moments." After the trailer appearaed yesterday moring ""#scottpilgrim" was a treding topic on Twitter for a while, beating out even Justin Bieber and Scotty McBoogerballs, so this could be a big deal.
Continue ReadingAs we reported yesterday, the various forces vying for Comic-Con International-- Anaheim and San Diego--are marshaling their forces via competing Facebook pages. However another rogue element has also surfaced on Facebook, namely, CreatorCon, a group which feels that the traditional San Diego gathering has become too movie focused and another event is called for: MISSION AMENDMENT: The CreatorCon mission is one of positivity and sharing, in looking for the best way to showcase, promote, and share talent and ideas in the fields of comics, graphic arts and beyond. The overall mission statement will change as we gather steam and further define our goals. We are well on our way to doing that with the amazing support so far from everyone who has joined or contributed.

Not only is today the day that hotel reservations have to be paid for or surrendered, but dueling Facebook pages have been launched to showcase potential future home of the one the call "Con!" You'll recall that several cities are vying for the San Diego Comic-Con-- or as it's more accurately known, Comic-Con International: San Diego. See if they move it, they even have a name for it. A lack of space in the convention center and surrounding hotels has the folks who run CCI seriously looking at other venues for when their contract runs out in 2012.

Continue ReadingLife outside the wrestling ring is often as harsh as life inside it. One has only to look at the long list of dead wrestlers to see that the occupation takes a brutal toll on its practitioners-- not just drugs but injuries, car crashes, violence and the general wear and tear of a 300-days-a-year schedule of very real physical exertion. But the men and women who chose this lifestyle do it because they love it, and giving up the hyper-intensity of the wrestling life is a difficult transition for nearly everyone in the show -- especially considering that most wrestlers don't sock away their money and have no pension plan and lots of medical bills and might not really know what else to do.

Continue ReadingProving the law of physics that states that matter and Grant Morrison projects cannot truly be destroyed, only transferred from one publisher to another, Liquid has teamed with Dynamite, and Morrison's "Mahabharata" project -- announced a few years ago with now defunct Virgin Comics -- will be seeing print as an "illustrated script book" entitled 18 Days .... The original -- a classic Indian myth telling of three great warriors and their cataclysmic battles -- is the world's longest epic poem at more than 1.8 millions words, so there was certainly a lot of source material. ...Combined with the visual spectacle of Mukesh Singh's artwork, this is a book that goes beyond myth, beyond generations and beyond borders, transcending the story's origins and showing the world a dynamic new vision of gods and war,” Liquid’s CEO, Sharad Devarajan commented, “Dynamite is the ideal partner to help us bring this book to all fans of comics, pop culture and myth." ...Morrison has long had an interest in Indian myths -- see much of the Invisibles -- and he and Deepak Chopra appeared on a panel together at San Diego in 2008 to tak about aspects of the project.
