Over the last week, LEGO has revealed that some delightfully nerdy LEGO Ideas sets will be coming soon to stores near you, Master Builder! These new set are the company’s latest fan-designed Ideas creations, featuring Special Agents Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (played by Gillian Anderson), both of whom will be joining the LEGO family for the first time. Stay tuned for more details!

After 2024’s “If We Could Turn Back Time” challenge focused on the ’80s nostalgia, this year’s LEGO Ideas competition looked to the ’90s, asking fans to submit ideas that celebrated the amazing decade of entertainment. In this year’s challenge, “Build Your Nostalgia – 90s Throwback!,” LEGO asked fans to submit brick build ideas that captured “the era’s diverse and rich movie and TV scenes.” With up to 5000 unique brick pieces at builders’ disposal, fans were asked to recreate famous movie moments or dive deep into the intricate details of a TV show set or iconic film design from the decade.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, LEGO announced which sets form the ’90s-themed challenge would become officially licensed sets. LEGO divided the contest into two categories: one for larger sets, which could range from 1,000 to 5,000 pieces, and another for smaller builds, between 200 and 1,000 pieces. Ultimately, five entries from each category were chosen to be submitted for fan voting, with the promise that the winning LEGO sets would become commercially available products.

In the larger set category, the winner was LEGO Ideas user WetWired, with their impressive creation titled The X-Files: The Truth Is Out There. This set is a fantastic tribute to the iconic TV show, created by Chris Carter, that features two cleverly stacked vignettes: one showcasing a UFO encounter in a forest, complete with a grey alien beaming down from a ship, and another replicating Mulder’s basement office at the FBI, replete with the classic “The Truth Is Out There” poster. In addition to the intricate vignettes, WetWired’s LEGO masterpiece boasts a variety of X-Files minifigures that span the show’s run, including Mulder and Scully, the grey alien, Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Eugene Tooms, the Syndicate Leader, and even the notorious Jersey Devil.

Naturally, since these are LEGO Ideas submissions, there will likely be some adjustments between these fan-created designs and the final official sets (which, by the way, still don’t have confirmed release dates or price points). For now, though, they are part of the exciting lineup alongside Wallace & Gromit, Godzilla and a bunch of other cool Ideas sets in the works.
