As a comics person and a lit person, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.
Oh, and I meant to mention that the Virginia Quarterly Review has been publishing a memoir by Art Spiegelman and has serialized Marjane Satrapi’s Chicken with Plums. VQR is definitely not one of those high-falutin’ lit enclaves that hate us!
Damned straight. :) I was reading Spiegelman long before I was reading…well…just about anything by any other author you’d find in VQR, I guess. Ted Genoways, our editor, is certainly a strong comic fan, and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to discover that he still has well-thumbed childhood hordes of Spider-Man and Captain America.
