Crunchyroll’s The God of High School, is prepping for the last three episodes of its first season and a new trailer sets the stage for the main casts’ newfound divine powers. It’s been a bit of a slow burn in that regard thus far, as what first seemed like a standard martial arts tournament (for high schoolers) gradually began incorporating devilish characters and occasional side-glances to fighters calling on deities to fight with them. Needless to say, it’s pretty cool.

“The God of High School is an action-packed series that follows a high schooler and his friends as they compete in an epic tournament, borrowing power directly from the gods and uncovering a mysterious organization along the way… With the promise of their heart’s deepest desires, motivating their tournament victory.”

Thus far, the show’s taken it’s time establishing the main crew, their relationships, and stakes, expertly toeing the line between wholesome and high-energy action. Now, as Jin Mori, Yoo Mira, and Han Daewi head into the next stage of the competition, they’ll have to call on their own hidden powers if they hope to win and have their heart’s greatest wish answered. If you haven’t been following along with the Crunchyroll Original series based on Yongje Park’s manga you can check out The Beat’s review of the pilot episode here.
