For this week’s Top Comics to Buy for March 4, I was stunned that two of my favorite series in recent memories both ended up wrapping on the same day, especially since they didn’t launch on the same day, or even the same month. But hey, that’s just one of those fun coincidences you get to enjoy when you’re a weekly comics sicko. Which two series? Well, you’ll just have to scroll down to my recommendations to find out.
And along with my five favorite comics, you’ll also find 10 more books I liked, along with release lists for the new #1s and graphic novels/trades out this week…enjoy!

As Batman is beckoned to Arkham Towers by the mysterious man in Room Ten, nothing will prepare him for who he finds there. Some might call him the Caped Crusader’s archnemesis. Others might call him Batman’s best friend. Everyone calls him the Joker.
Why It’s Cool: Who doesn’t love a good Batman-Joker issue? And with this current run working as well as it had, it was, of course, only a matter of time before The Joker showed up. The version we get is recognizably chilling but still different and perfect for this run. And the streak of great cliffhanger endings continues.

Writer: Jeremy Haun & Jason A. Hurley
Artist: Emanuela Lupacchino
Colorist: Leonardo Paciarotti

Publisher: Ignition Press
In order to fulfill her mission and uncover secrets for her mysterious client, Nox is forced to contract the Beauty to access an exclusive island and reach her affluent target. When she arrives, she discovers the task has a deep, unexpected connection to the Abernathy.
Why It’s Cool: This The Beauty revival (just in time for the new TV show) has been fantastic, juggling multiple interesting threads and pushing forward some of the story’s great central concepts. Emanuela Lupacchino also remains a perfect choice as the new series artist.

Cartoonist: Patrick Horvath
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Publisher: IDW Publishing
The series finale of the critically acclaimed cozy-horror smash hit! Samantha Strong has made her choice… and Woodbrook will never be the same. The events of the previous issue are so incredibly wild that we actually can’t type anything else here without it being a major spoiler. But you won’t want to miss the conclusion to Patrick Horvath’s epic follow-up to Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.
Why It’s Cool: It’s hard to think of a more perfectly executed (heh) new series than Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, now in its second full arc, and this week we get the finale to that second arc. It’s tough to discuss here without spoiling, but it’s just as dark and eventful as readers of the book would expect (complimentary).

Stop and smell the corpses! The horrors of winter are behind us, but a sinister new season awaits… HELLO DARKNESS returns this spring with a fresh bouquet of horror!
Why It’s Cool: There are so many good comics anthologies right now (most of them horror), but Hello Darkness has slowly started to emerge as the one I look forward to most. This is no slight against the other books, I just find the comics in this one to be the most varied, surprising, and well-done. This issue serves up such a great set of horror comics, with very little in common between them, with vampires, and dopplegangers, and magic baseball teams, and on it goes.

When Jonathan Reason falls asleep, he becomes… something terrible. Taking the unfinished pill that was supposed to cure his curse leaves Jon in a twilight state, suddenly fully aware of the blood-soaked rampage he is on… as well as the reasons why.
Why It’s Cool: This has been one of my favorite books in comics throughout its run, the type that lands on the absolute top of my to-read stack, because I’m just that eager to see what happens next. It’s been a suspenseful, horror mystery box so far, and this eighth and final issue does a great job explaining just enough of what’s been going on, while still leaving some dark mystery at the center. While I enjoyed reading this book month-to-month, I think its cliffhanger chapter structure and tight eight issue length are going to make it one of the best binge reads in comics this year, once it gets collected in trade. Simply put, do not sleep on Sleep.
