This Saturday it’s the Hawthorne show, a one day throw back to cons of yore, with a great guest list. You can see all the details here, but here’s an edited list:

The Hawthorne High School Comic Convention arrives this Saturday May 12th from 10am – 4pm. With a guest line up all but the biggest comic conventions would be envious of, the school looks forward to its greatest convention ever.

Mike Oeming (Powers, Cross Bronx)
Mark Texiera (Black Panther)
Ivan Brandon (NYC Mech, Cross Bronx)
Andy MacDonald (NYC Mech)
Rags Morales (Identity Crisis)
Tom Raney (Civil War, Uncanny X Men)
Rich Buckler Sr. (almost every character at DC & Marvel!!!)
Dennis Calero (X Factor)
Gene Colan (Dracula, Daredevil, Batman)
Mark Schultz (Cadillac’s & Dinosaurs, Prince Valiant)
Joe Sinnott (Fantastic Four, Spiderman)
Tania Del Rio (Sabrina)
Joe Giella (Tent.) (Batman, Green Lantern, Flash and America’s
sweetheart Mary Worth)
Rudy Nebres (Vamperilla, Creepy, Eerie)

…and many more…

The guests are not the only activity at the convention. Ken Gale will be moderating a panel at 3pm featuring comic creators from every era of comics. The panel will include comics great Gene Colan and be held in Room 111.

We will have our yearly auction featuring original artwork, books and prints from some of the attending artists and items generously donated by Fantagraphics Books (a limited edition signed book by Neil Gaiman) and Eva Ink Publishing (items from Arthur Suydam and Michael Golden). Winner’s names will be drawn at 2:30 pm at the auction booth. You must be present at the time of the drawing to win!

Here is the schedule of art lessons being offered at the show. Art supplies will be supplied by the school, except for painting supplies (you must bring your own).

  1. “With a guest line up all but the biggest comic conventions would be envious of, the school looks forward to its greatest convention ever.” (SHUDDER) — this is a high school, and no one knows to avoid a dangling participle phrase??? If comics don’t lead the way in proper English, who will?!
