Marvel Comics has revealed August’s Immortal Thor #14 will mark the 800th overall issue of the God of Thunder’s series, including the earlier issues of the anthology he first appeared in, Journey of Mystery. As such, the milestone comic will include special anniversary back-ups by Chris Condon & Jesse Lonergan, and former Thor & Journey Into Mystery writer Kieron Gillen, as well as the main story by Al Ewing & Pasqual Ferry.

For those who haven’t kept up with Mortal Thor, and its 2023-25 predecessor Immortal Thor (also written by Ewing), the series has seen Thor die and get reborn as the human Sigurd Jarlson, who has no memory of his Asgardian life, but still possesses a compulsion to right wrongs with a hammer. The comic’s solicit reads, “The Serpent has trapped Sigurd Jarlson in the worst of all possible worlds for his greatest trial. Now, without even a weapon in his hand, he must prove himself worthy to enter the Realms of the Gods. Somewhere in the city, a man without even a hammer begins the ultimate quest… the quest for Thor!”

Ewing comments, “Issue #800 wraps up some long-running plotlines that have plagued Thor since before his death, but it also sets Sigurd Jarlson on a quest that will send him through the realms of myth to an Asgard that’s never needed a Thor more than now. Sigurd is still without any powers beyond his own courage, wits, and willpower — can a mortal face the trials of the gods, save ten worlds, and bring the Thunder God back to the people who need him? I couldn’t ask for a better artist than Pasqual Ferry to help tell this story, and I hope you all enjoy the ride we’ve got planned for you. #800 is only the beginning!”

Mortal Thor #14 will be released on August 19, with a main cover by Alex Ross, and two variants (including a textless version) by Ryan Stegman. You can check out the latter below, with a two-page interior preview. In the meantime, Ewing’s Queen in Black crossover, featuring the Asgardian goddess of death Hela, will kick off on July 1, and a Thor tie-in special by Ewing and Sergio Dávila will follow on August 5.
