Who exactly is The Visitor and what is he doing in the Valiant Universe? Starting in December, readers can start to unravel the mystery surrounding this character in an all-new series, written by Paul Levitz and illustrated by MJ Kim, with colors and letters by Diego Rodriguez and Simon Bowland, respectively. Before the series’ launch, The Beat has an exclusive, extended preview of the The Visitor #1, as well as some insights from series editor David Menchel.
In an exclusive statement for The Beat, Menchel said that while he can’t give away too much about the series, “I can tease that it’s a story of survival and secrets. It’s UN Week in New York City and there are a few mysterious guests who show up as part of the Japanese delegation — they’re scientists who have come here in order to complete a very important project. Someone — or something — doesn’t want that project completed, and that’s The Visitor.”
“I think there’s a very intriguing mystery that starts unraveling from the very beginning,” he continued. “Quite literally, it starts with a bang, and readers will keep coming back for answers to a plethora of questions that Paul has set up: Who is the Visitor? What is he doing here? Why is he doing this?”
As for working with Levitz and Kim, Menchel describes them as an all-star team: “Paul is bringing this ominous sense of mystery and secrecy, while MJ has been turning in pages that you couldn’t imagine. It’s been a truly great experience to simultaneously work with talent as established as Paul, and the up-and-coming power house that is MJ. I think they each inspire the other to be even better, it’s the kind of collaborating you only find in comics.”
The Visitor #1 (of 6) hits shelves Dec. 18, 2019 and is currently available for pre-order at your local comic shop.
